Marine surveys are inspections of a vessel for individuals who are preparing to purchase a boat or for getting new insurance policies.  Many insurance companies want to be sure that they will not be insuring a vessel which is on the brink of sinking.  It is very important to hire a surveyor who has been around boats for many years, has worked on boats, and who has captained a wide variety of vessels.  Several marine surveying training programs will give a surveyor the checklist of items to cover, but only experience around boats will alert  the surveyor to the many potential issues which can arise on a boat.  Be sure your boat is safe - the sea can be an unforgiving place, especially if your boat is not ready.
